[ads2]In every country, the growth of their game always rests on the shoulders of two rival clubs. In as much as other clubs will once in a while surface to challenge, the tradition, history and records of some teams will always make them the fore runners in their respective league.
The Ghana Women’s Premier League has seen two clubs dominate the headlines since its inception in 2012. These two clubs has produced the best of players on the local scene as well as the international market. Players like Samira Suleman Jennifer Kaka Cudjoe Ernestina Abambila Grace Asantewaa etc were all players groomed by these two clubs.
Hasaacas Ladies Football Club and Ampem Darkoa Ladies Supporters are the two most successful women’s football teams in Ghana sharing honours and laurels amongst them. In terms of talent production, these two giant clubs dominates with majority of their players making the various national teams.
One Unique thing about these teams is that, every year, they lose key ingredients of their squad yet scouts the best from other teams to replace them.
Hasaacas Ladies despite losing 7 of their tops stars to teams in Europe and also their most exciting star Milot Pokuaa going under the knife have managed to reach the finals of the Women’s Premier league and also the Women’s FA Cup. Right after the CAF Women’s Champions League, Regina Antwi Gifty Nana Assifuah Azumah Bugre Queenabel Amankrah Perpetual Agyekum Evelyn Badu all secured moves abroad whilst Jafar Rahama returned to Northern Ladies Football Club after her loan spell came to an end.
With all these players leaving, coach Yussif Basigi managed to recruit and promote some of the best players in the local game to form a very strong side. Players like Linda Epo,Asana Yahya and Linda Eshun were brought into the team whilst Doreen Copson,Success Ameyaa Babae,Lauratu Issaka, Lucy Kwofie, have been given enough room to explore their potentials.
Like the saying goes, when one door shuts, another door open, Doreen Copson, Success Ameyaa and Linda Epo has been revelation for the Giant of West.
Success Ameyaa who is part of the Black Maidens has seen great performances since the start of the season. She’s scored goals and was arguably the best player in the women’s super cup winning the topscorer award.
Doreen Copson is now the midfield machine, combining soo well with Faustina Nyame Aidoo in the middle and topping it up with great goals. Her presence in the middle has made many to forget about Evelyn Badu.
Linda Epo took the position of Milot Abena Pokuaa and has since made it her own. Eventhough she’s not made the headlines like Milot does, she’s been brilliant on the wings for Hasaacas Ladies. The Military personnel has scored and provided important assists for Hasaacas Ladies and many feels she’s been the secret weapon for the team.
Experienced Linda eshun returned from her trip abroad to occupy the vacancy left at the back by the exit of Perpetual Agyekum. Her experience coupled with the intelligence of Blessing Shine Agbomadzi, Janet Nana Ama Egyir and Comfort Owusu provided a rock solid defence going unbeaten throughout the season.
One area many felt was going to be a problem was the Goalkeeping department when Grace Banwa was called up into the national team. Diana Maweremuo took matters in her own hands and became the safest pair of hands. She guided the team to win the Women’s Super Cup and played majority of the league matches.
Doris Boaduwaa and Coba Appiah Veronica has been the team’s goal getters. They have maintained their goal scoring prowess since the start of the campaign. Eventhough they had to miss some crucial games due to national team duties, these two lethal attackers always make their presence felt whenever they wear the Hasaacas Ladies jersey.
But the biggest of the work has been done by the best women’s football coach in Ghana Yussif Basigi. Never looked worried after losing his key player. Built a completely new squad blending the old and the new player soo well. Created an enabling environment for all players to compete for positions in the team.
Once again dominating the women’s game even when many felt his dynasty was crumbling with the exits.
Now it’s up to the Ghana Football Association to identify where resources needs to be channelled. With what Hasaacas Ladies Football Club has done, it’s quite prudent that the GFA supports them in making them a powerful team in Africa. The GFA should make it a responsibility to equip and facilitate their developments to match the standards sets by Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club Ladies Team on the African Continent. With that they will be able to produce the quality they are producing now and even more. Not forgetting other clubs, but it’s will ideal to build the best whilst other tap into their developments.
Hasaacas Ladies plays Ampem Darkoa in the Women’s FA Cup finals and also has qualified to the finals of the Women’s Premier League Champion of Champions waiting for who tops the Northern Zone of the Women’s Premier league.
