The young man involved in the viral Wa flogging has sustained a serious eye injury as a result of the incident.
“Ever since the incident, one of my brothers with the social welfare department came here and took me to the hospital for general body screening, ” he said as quoted by 3news.
Aside the severe eye injury, he added that,“I suffered blisters and bruises but the most severe one has to do with my right eye because one of the people flogging me that day stomped on my eye.”
“When I go out, it becomes blurred and tears begin to stream down the eye. I even wear dark glasses but it doesn’t help much.”
“I pray I don’t lose my sight completely. I leave everything in the hands of God. Maybe I would get some help to regain my sight. It’s been tough,” he added.
It would be recalled that few days ago, two lovers were seen in a viral video on social media being flogged at the Wa Naa’s palace in the Upper East Region.
Their crime for the flogging was recording their sexual escapade.
The two were tied to a pole and lashed for apparently desecrating the custom of the land.
This led to the arrest of three suspects on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
The suspects, Sidiki Osman, Bushiran Khigir and Issahaku Mahama, were arrested with the support of the Wa Naa and some community members,” the police said.
The three suspects were arraigned before court, with the police mounting a pursuit to arrest other persons seen in the video.
The arrest of the three also led to an attack of a police station in the community where some 28 of the rioters were gripped by the police.
