Astute businessman Mukesh Thakwani has pleaded with government to immediately place an embargo on cheap imported finish fabrication products that are already being produced in Ghana by local companies to protect the steel industry.
According to the highy-revered businessman who operate the largest steel manufacturing company (B5 Plus Limited) in West Africa located in Tema, a suburb in Accra – Ghana, the high rate of importation of steel products is gradually collapsing steel manufacturing companies in the country.
The award-winning businessman believes a ban would not only protect local companies but strengthen domestic currency and create more jobs for the unemployed youths.
Mr Thakwani however commended President Akufo-Addo for the introduction of one district one factory – an initiative introduced to change the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on import and export of raw material to one which is focused on manufacturing, value addition and export of processed goods, for businesses to access funding from financial institutions and other support services from Government agencies to establish factories.
He, however advised Ghanaians to desist from excessive intake of foreign goods and patronize made in Ghana products to boost the local economy
