Relegated Ghana Premier League side West African Football Academy (WAFA SC) have pulled out from all Ghana FA organised competitions starting from the 2022/23 league season.[ads2]
The Sogakope-based club have taken the decision to withdraw from the GFA competitions over a directive to relocate to the Central region for the next season division one league matches.
WAFA qualified to the Ghana Premier League from the zone two when the team was formerly Gomoa Fetteh Feyernood and were basing in the Central region before the change of ownership and was relocated to Sogakope in the Volta Region.[ads3]
But after being relegated from the Ghanaian top-flight league, the management of the team have informed the Ghana FA to move them to zone three which is made up of clubs within the Sogakope enclave but their request has been rejected.[ads4]
According to the Ghana FA, WAFA can only play in the zone two but management of the club are arguing that most of their players are in school, and playing in the Central Region will be counter-productive thus pulling out from all GFA organised competitions.
The decision means that WAFA will not partake in the 2022/23 Ghana division one league of their request are not granted by the Ghana FA.[ads5]
