The Western Regional communication officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Kirk Mensah has begged President Akufo-Addo to as soon as possible call his appointees engaging in illegal mining activities to order.[ads2]
According to him, some appointees of the President are actively involved in illegal mining activities hence the reason why efforts to curb the menace is yielding no result.
Speaking on Takoradi-based Fox FM, Mr Kirk Mensah indicated that illegal mining activities of which some government appointees are involved is destroying water bodies and forest reserves in the country particularly the Western Region.[ads3]
“There’s pressure on the cedi and if the President want to stabilize the economy then he should call his appointees and other accomplices who are actively involved in illegal mining activities to order. He [President Akufo-Addo] knows all those officials who are engaging in illegal mining and must stop them before things get worse”, he said
He continued that, “they want to destroy our water bodies and forest reserves but have forgotten that it will serve an important purpose in the lives of the next generation. They should think about tomorrow and not what they will gain today, am begging the President to call them to order.”
