Ghanaian economist, Kwame Pianim has said Ken Ofori-Atta who is the country’s Finance Minister is not credibile enough to lead negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).[ads2]
This comes after reports were that President Akufo-Addo has asked the NPP lawmakers for time to enable Ken Ofori-Atta reach the deal with IMF before his sack.
About 80 NPP MPs petitioned President Akufo-Addo to fire Ken Ofori-Atta as the Minister of Finance after seven years due to the current economic hardships in the country.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Kwame Pianim stated that the decision for Ken Ofori-Atta to lead the negotiations on behalf of Ghana is erroneous since he was against the decision in the first place.[ads3]
“Ken Ofori-Atta is not a credible messenger”, he said.
“Somebody who didn’t want to be taking this route, how can you say he should lead it?”
He disclosed that his sources in Washington indicate that negotiations with the IMF is not going smoothly as expected.[ads4]
“The IMF negotiation is not going well [and] I know this for a fact.
“What the IMF is waiting for is a bold, credible pronouncement from the president as he did over the Covid.”[ads5]
