Aspiring Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Brogya Genfi has denied claims of George Opare Addo sponsoring his parliamentary bid in 2016.[ads2]
According to a statement from the campaign team of Brogya Genfi, Opare Addo who is the incumbent youth organiser of the leading opposition party, has been peddling falsehood that he financed Mr Genfi’s parliamentary campaign when he decided to contest for the Suame seat in 2016.
In the statement, it was explained that indeed Mr Opare Addo gave an amount of Gh¢10,000 to support NDC parliamentary candidates in the Ashanti Region during the 2016 elections of which Brogya Genfi was part but the money came from the son of Dr Kwabena Duffour.[ads3]
“First and foremost, George Opare Addo’s claim that he personally sponsored Brogya Genfi’s Parliamentary bid for the Suame Constituency in the 2016 General Election is a barefaced lie. To be clear, George Opare Addo never sponsored Brogya Genfi’s 2016 Parliamentary election bid and therefore has no right to lable him as an ingrate”, the statement said.
“The truth of the matter is that, Dr. Kwabena Duffour as a personal project set out to support some NDC Parliamentary Candidates and polling agents in the Ashanti Region and other regions in the run-up to the 2016 General Elections. This, he did through his errand boy, George Opare Addo, who was tasked to disburse the financial support to selected NDC Parliamentary candidates. It was pursuant to this initiative that an amount of GH10,000.00 was given by Dr. Duffour through his son, Dr. Kwabena Duffour Jnr. and his errand boy, George Opare Addo to some NDC Parliamentary Candidates in the Ashanti Region of which Brogya Genfi, who was running for the Suame Parliamentary seat at the time was part.[ads4]
The statement continues that “sadly, part of the amount of money that was released by Dr. Duffour through George Opare Addo for Branch Executives in the Suame Constituency never got to them. Nothing could therefore be further from the truth than Opare Addo’s claim that he has personally supported Brogya’s parliamentary election bid in the past, for which the latter has been ungrateful.”[ads5]
