Black Queens center back, Faustina Ampah claims the Total 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nation will be the most competitive tournament, adding that Nigeria still remains favorite to win the tournament despite Ghana as the host.
The Black Queens of Ghana narrowly saw off a semifinal tie against the Super Falcons in the 2018 West African Women’s Cup 4:5 on penalties after a 1:1 draw in regulation time – Ampah grabbed a 15th minute equalizer for the Coach Mercy Tagoe led side in a super tensed game at Treichville Sports Park Stadium, Abidjan following Alice Ogebe’s 9th minute opener for the Falcons.
Speaking to www.kyfilla.com, the FC Minsk stalwart defender opined that, the tournament will be very interesting and competitive – she tipped Nigeria as the favorite again adding there will be stiff competition from some nations.
“Nigeria will always be favorite in any AWCON tournament, there’s Equatorial Guinea too, Cameroon is there and South Africa has a lot of good players. This one will be very difficult for any nation.
Ampah who’s the only Ghanaian to have represented the nation at three different FIFA Under 20 Female World Cups added that; the Women’s game has seen a tremendous improvement over the years and since the tournament has eluded Ghana for the past ten occasions, this one present yet another opportunity to try and win it.
“It’ll be another interesting tournament come November, the AWCON has eluded Ghana for the past 10 occasions. Collectively, the female game has developed in the country, it is another opportunity to try and win and I’m sure when the time comes, the team will do everything possible to try and win it.
Faustina Ampah is the first Ghanaian to play in the round of 32 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League when FC Minsk lost to Czech Republic side Slavia Prague.
