Students, parents and invited guests gathered at the Delhi Private International School auditorium in Tema for the high-profiled Francophone awards ceremony held on November 25, 2022.
The colourful ceremony, that witnessed some top-notch personalities in the country present and about hundred of students awarded was to facilitate the award winners in the Francophone inter-school competition.
This year’s edition of the awards had Delhi Private International School chosen by the Ministry of Education to host the event.
The Francophone awards has been held annually with the purpose of promoting french language and to support education, training higher education and research in the french language.
Speaking at the colourful event, the chairman of Delhi Private International School, Mukesh Thakwani emphasized the fact that Ghana is surrounded by Francophone Countries and so it becomes important for Ghanaians to learn different foreign languages, especially French to strengthen communication and explore more opportunities.
The Principal of the award-winning school, Dr Seema V. Nair also expressed her excitement stating that the school currently has students of twenty-eight nationalities and hence celebrating the Francophone awards is an excellent way to promote the diversity and university of the French language.
She reiterated that the fact that Ghana is surrounded by francophone countries makes it imperative for Ghanaians to learn different foreign languages especially french to strengthen communication.
Present at the event were H. E. Maher Kheir; the Ambassador of Lebanon in Ghana and Benin and President of the Francophone Ambassadors Group, Mohammed Hamad Fahad Ah-Athba: the third Secretary Embassy of Qatar in Ghana, Monsieur Julien Lecas; the Head of Cooperation, Embassy of France in Ghana, representing the H. E. the new Ambassador of France in Ghana.
Also present were Mr. Peter Maacedon;
Member Ghana Commission for La Francophonie, representing the Focal Person for La Francophonie, Office of the President, Mr. Robert Atsu Davor; National Coordinator, Regional Centers for the Teaching of French Teacher (CREF) representing the Director General of Ghana Education Service, Miss Engracia Moufman and Miss Universe Ghana 2022.
