Former Black Stars coach, James Kwesi Appiah has not shut the door on a possible return to head the senior national male team.[ads2]
The Black Stars is currently without a head coach after Otto Addo decided to step down following the country’s poor showdown at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Otto Addo qualifed Ghana to the mundial after beating Nigeria on an aggregate scoreline in the final playoff round but failed to progress from the group stage of the tournament, picking only a win and losing the other two matches.[ads3]
And with the search for a new head coach in session, coach Kwesi Appiah has opened his doors to head the Black Stars for the third time having already coached the team from 2011 to 2014 and between 2017 and 2019.
Speaking in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Kwesi Appiah says he has not stopped coaching despite his long absence from the touchline and will be willing to help his country once again.[ads4]
“The fact that I have not come out to say I have stopped coaching if the opportunity comes and I can help why not. Once coaching is my destiny if I’m approached and I can help why not,” he said.
Ghana will have to get a new coach as soon as possible before the 2023 AFCON qualifiers returns in March this year.[ads5]
