Former deputy General-Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has said said the NDC have done nothing wrong in changing its leadership in parliament.[ads2]
According to him, the NDC as a political party have the rights to make changes to its leadership in parliament whenever necessary and sees nothing wrong with the party’s decision.
“We need to be honest with ourselves. The NDC is a political party and at any point in time, they can change leadership. They have only decided to re-strategise and restructure, and for me there is no big deal about it,” he said as quoted by graphiconline.
“With due respect, I will not criticise the NDC for choosing to change its parliamentary leadership. I am a matured and a discerning politician and I won’t buy into that. The NDC is a political party with 137 Members of Paliament and they can take a decision on their own, anytime. They decided to change their party leadership and we don’t need to drag this through the media,” he added.
He indicated that his focus is to help the sitting Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to win the NPP flagbearership position and subsequently become the country’s President in the 2024 general elections.[ads3]
“I know for sure that the NDC will present John Mahama as their flagbearer, but I can also assure you that Dr Bawumia is set to beat him in the national elections,” he asserted.
The NDC on January 23 released a statement that it has made changes to its leadership in parliament.
Tamale South legislator, Haruna Iddrisu had his seat as the minority leader handed to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam MP.[ads4]
Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, the MP for Ellembelle in the Western region was also named the deputy minority leader, replacing Ketu North legislator James Avedzi Klutse.
Asawase lawmaker, Muntaka Mubarak, who was the Minority Whip, has been replaced by Adaklu MP, Kwame Agbodza.
However, Banda MP, Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyo Ghansah who is the MP for Ada have maintained their positions as first and second deputy minority whip.
The new leadership have been charged to recommend consequential changes in the ranking membership to the party’s headquarters for approval.[ads5]
