The Ghana National Gas Company has signed an agreement to construct a Gas Processing Plant (GPP) train 2 at Atuabo in the Ellembelle district of the Western region.
The project estimated to cost $700m was signed in a brief ceremony at the Gas House Forecourt in Accra on Friday, February 3, 2023.
Addressing the media, the Board Chairman o Ghana Gas, Hon Kennedy Agyapong said the project will boast of a nominal capacity of 150 MMscfd, expandable to 300 MMscfd, to process incremental raw gas volumes from Greater Jubilee and Ten fields.
He said the project which comes as part of the strategic development plan of Ghana Gas, is to add up a second gas processing train with a total nominal capacity of 150 MMscfd, expandable to 300 MMscfd which will increase the national processing capacity to 450 Mnscfd.
According to the astute lawmaker, the plan is aimed at among other things, strengthening and enhancing the mandate of Ghana Gas as the sole state agency tasked to build, own and operate the infrastructure required for the gathering, processing, transporting and marketing of natural gas resources in Ghana.
He indicated that one critical project under the plan is the construction of a Second gas processing plant (ie GPP Train 2) to process the incremental natural gas volumes from upstream partners.[ads2]
Highlighting some important and key benefits of the new GPP Train 2, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas, Dr Ben K.D Asante said the new GPP Train 2 will create at least 1,000 jobs.
He reiterated that ninety percent of Gas produce by Ghana Gas is supply for the production of fertilizer and also supplied to the mineral processing industry, as well as the lron and steel processing industry.
