The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) is saddened at the demise of Ghanaian international Christian Atsu. The body of our compatriot was found under the rubbles of his apartment on Saturday morning February 18, 2023, ten days after a devastating earthquake in Turkey.
SWAG is extremely traumatized, particularly on the narratives leading to the sudden departure of such a much-loved son of our country.[ads4]
We are pained at the loss of a brilliant footballer who had risen through the ramshackle of the game to attain international reputation; a dedicated gentleman who had volunteered a lot of time and commitment to his football career for both club and country.
Indeed, the demise of Atsu comes as a monumental loss to the entire Ghanaian football community due to his huge sense of conviviality and benevolence, notably his charity works in Ghana.
SWAG is deeply hurt, nevertheless, takes solace in those magnificent dispositions of comrade Atsu which reinforce the fact that the years spent in his chosen career are worth remembering and eulogizing.[ads3]
Our heartfelt condolences go to the wife and children, his extended family and the entire football fraternity.
Our hearts are down, but we love you Atsu, rest in peace, our hearts will forever yearn for you
