The Western Regional Fire Service Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Grade One, Frederick Oheneng has passionately expressed his sorrow on the increasing rate at which galamsey activities is affecting their job.
According to him, most of their equipment have been damaged because of the high rate in which the major water bodies in the region where the Service get its water supply from have been polluted by galamseyers.
Speaking to pressmen at a media engagement organised by the Sekondi Command of the Service on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, Mr Oheneng bemoaned the lack of rapid measures to eradicate the menace which is affecting the natural environment.
“Look at the colour of the water alone and just have a look at the equipment and the pumps, when we pump this kind of water into the basin, we will spoil all the equipment”, he said.
“Scientifically we have not undertaken any research to know the cost but I think everybody knows it, this not a hidden thing, we all know what galamsey is doing to our communities of which we have been affected”, he added.
