Bofoakwa Tano FC have secured a ticket to play in the 2023/24 season of the Ghana Premier league after beating Eleven Wonders in the playoff at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
The Sunyani-based club have defeated Eleven Wonders 6:7 on penalty shootouts to ensure their return to the Ghanaian top-flight league.
The crucial game ended 1:1 after 120 minutes and the two clubs had to be separated via penalty shootouts of which Bofoakwa Tano FC emerged victorious.
It was Bofoakwa Tano who broke the deadlock from the spot kick as early as the 8th minute before Eleven Wonders snatched the parity after recess.
It was a game Bofoakwa Tano FC showed dominance and went ahead to win at the penalty shootouts.
The victory means Bofoakwa Tano FC have emerged as zone I champions of the 2022/23 division one league and have returned to the Ghana Premier league after sixteen years.
Eleven Wonders won the race in Zone One A as Bofoakwa Tano picked the slot in Zone One B to book their place for the championship playoff.
Zone One of the Division One League was split into two zones due to lack of resources in the Zone especially the three Northern Regions and the seeming tension and violence that have characterized the Zone in the last couple of seasons.
Bofoakwa Tano FC have joined Accra Hearts of Lions and Nations FC as the three to gain promotion to play in the 2023/24 season of the Ghana Premier league.
Hearts of Lions emerged winners from the zone three while Nations FC won the zone two of the division one league.
Currently, seven Zone One clubs, namely, Aduana FC, Berekum Chelsea, Bechem United, Real Tamale United, Legon Cities, Tamale City and Nsoatreman FC compete in the Ghana Premier League.
