Black Stars and Athletic Bilbao forward, Inaki Williams has opted out of the African Cup of Nations Qualifier against Madagascar due to health reasons in a statement posted on Monday.
The Spanish-based attacker in a statement shared on his social media handles revealed he’s played through pain throughout the games played in the later stages of the season and upon advice from his Medical Doctors has to better treat himself for the preseason.
Inaki Williams is yet to score for Ghana since accepting to play in July 11, 2022. The attacker has come under huge criticism for his lack of goals in Black Stars shirt though that’s in sharp contrast with his form for the La Liga outfit.
The statement also revealed he will be available for any future call-ups if Head Coach Chris Hughton deems it necessary.
“Since a few weeks I’ve been playing with pain in my left knee. I decided to play until the end of the season, but after having spoken with the medical services we’ve decided to stop and solve the problem to be 100% for the preseason.
“This wasn’t an easy decision to make because it means I won’t be able to be with my national team, Ghana, the next meeting.
“I say I’m fully committed and I’d return the next time if the Coach deems it appropriate next call-up” – the statement reads.
Ghana will play bottom-placed Madagascar on June 18, 2023 in the penultimate round of games in the qualifying stage. The Black Stars are currently leading the table with eight points followed by Central Africa Republic with seven points while Angola and Madagascar follow in that order with three and one point respectively.
