In almost every community in Ghana there is one element that is never missing. It is one of the most noticeable landmarks given by nature and nonetheless it can be created by man too.
The community park is more or less another home to many but one question lingers, how? Today, it is the joy of almost every male or female child to go out to play football on these parks considering the fact football is the most practiced sport.
They play football, having in mind some football stars and greats as idols. Literally, a community park is where an aspiring footballer’s dream starts. On occasional basis football and other recreational activities are held on these fields to fish out talents and prospects and also to entertain the community.
The likes of Mohammed Salisu , Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Mohammed Muntari who play the Black Stars and the Qatari national team respectively are testimonies to this assertion.
Of course there are other uses of community parks but the significance of this landmark with regards to sports is unequivocally enormous. You have no idea what this landmark means to some people.
Sekondi-Takoradi has a lot of community parks to boast of but what’s important is that we maintain them so that they serve their purpose.
Today, investments are been made to improve the standards of the community pitches and so some are been turned into astroturfs but are still not up to international standards.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Evans Bobbie after a visit to Morocco’s renowned King Mohammed VI Sports Complex, was amazed at what he saw sighting that Ghana is lagging behind in terms of infrastructure.
He expressed concerns on how bad sports facilities are in comparison to what he saw in Morocco. Nature has given,we must be thankful enough to upgrade them to the highest possible level.
The Minister acknowledged that Ghana’s artificial pitch technology was antiquated, whereas Morocco frequently upgrades its artificial fields with the most recent innovations.

He also lauded the facility’s hybrid field, which skillfully blends real and synthetic turfs
“The things we have seen, that complex alone has eight solid pitches, all FIFA standard. One of them is covered to prevent rain disruption, and it’s a blend of artificial and natural turf of the highest grade,” the Minister shared in an interview with Peace FM.
