Former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has debunked reports that that he has endorsed the candidature of Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin to lead the National Democratic Congress into the 2020 presidential election.
At least four stalwarts in the biggest opposition party, including Mr. Bagbin, Sylvester Mensah the former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, and Ekwow Spio-Garbrah former Trade Minister, have publicly expressed their interest in the flagbearership slot.
Mr. Julius Debrah who is a well known Mahama loyalist had previously made comments suggesting his unflinching support for former president John Mahama’s comeback after losing the 2016 elections to Nana Akufo-Addo.
Reports emerging that the former Chief of Staff has switched camp, therefore, surprised many.
But he has issued a statement to unequivocally state his position, to the contrary.
“Let me state emphatically that, I, Julius Debrah, have at no time, either privately or publicly made any statements to suggest my support or endorsement of Mr. Bagbin.”
He explained: “It is unfortunate that a last-minute request by Mr. Bagbin after the one week commemoration of my late mother to visit will be deliberately twisted for seeming political gain. He was warmly received just like all other dignitaries who came to mourn with my family.”
Mr. Julius Debrah has therefore asked the general public to “ignore” the said reports.
