Some armed robbery suspects raped four female students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, after breaking into their house.
It was gathered that criminals invaded Abapawa hostel, a student area on campus, early Tuesday morning and committed the act. This development is said to have caused a wave of outcry among students against the intervention of security forces.
Reacting to the incident, the state Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyede, during his visit to the area, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, and the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, promised that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
She also visited the victims and ordered their transfer to Olabisi Onabanjo State Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for appropriate medical treatment.
“Earlier today (Tuesday), after receiving sad news regarding an armed robbery in some hostels in TASUED and the brutal rape of four female students, Prince Dapo Abiodun ordered me to immediately visit the victims and on campus as part of the truth-finding mission and pledge government support to ensure this does not happen again,” she said.
“I visited girls who are currently receiving care and the support they need to heal from their trauma at the OSUTH Sexual Assault Referral Center (SARC). “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is of the utmost importance, and I then had an important meeting with TASUED management and students.
I was joined by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Alamutu, and the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, where we discussed concrete steps to strengthen security measures and promote a safe environment within the campus and neighboring host communities.
