Former Ghana Blackstars coach and current Sudan head coach James Kwesi Appiah has defended underfire Kumasi Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum over the poor start to the season.
In an interview with Accra-based radio station Asempa FM, the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club Technical Director reiterated the need for the Kotoko hierarchy to give Prosper Ogum adequate time to build his team.
He stated that most of the players are new and from different clubs, so it will take time for them to perform. Appiah also went on to say that the players are now adapting to the tactics of the coach.
The Sudanese gaffer continued that he believes it will take time to get there, at least by the end of the first round of the 23/23 BetPawa Premier League campaign. This is what Kwesi Appiah said on Asempa FM:
“The players are now adapting to the tactics of the coach. There is no way that all of a sudden you have a new coach and new players, so it will take time because they are all from different clubs, so they will need time to understand each other, but I believe it will take time to get there,” he told Asempa FM.
“I am sure at the end of the first round, the team will shape up,” the newly appointed Sudan head coach added.
Asante Kotoko will face Bechem United at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday. They are currently in seventh place with nine points, whereas Bechem United occupies the 12th spot with seven points after six games.
