A young man in his 20s identified as Tondow Bismark was shot dead by suspected armed robbers at the Wungu-Walewale road stretch in West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.
The deceased was identified as a family member who worked as a tractor driver in Wungu. The incident happened at midnight on Sunday, October 29, 2023, when the young man was traveling from Wungu to Tinguri.
Some people working on the construction of the Ghana National Firefighters Training School on that stretch of road said they heard noises at the scene around midnight but mistakenly thought they were bush hunters always moving around to hunt at night.
The suspected armed robbers fled with his motorbike, leaving him unconscious after being shot in the left arm, near the chest.
However, early in the morning, some traffic participants saw his unconscious body and reported it to the police. They quickly arrived at the scene and transported the remaining corpse.
The incident was also reported to the paramount chief of the Wungu Traditional Area, Naazori Saaka Sulemana, before his remains were taken to the hospital.
His body was taken to Walewale Government Hospital for post-mortem preservation. The police have also opened an investigation into the matter.
