Suspected Boko Haram terrorists invaded Beneshiekh town, the headquarters of Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, and killed the Chief Imam, Sheihk Baba Goni Muktar Malumti.
The terrorists also burned some of the deceased’s Islamic books. The deceased before his death was a famous Islamic scholar and Chief Imam of Jumaat Mosque, Beneshiekh.
Later, another terrorist group invaded Makinta Kururi village in Beneshiekh and kidnapped two hunters in separate subsequent attacks. Recall that last month, the grand mufti’s younger brother was also killed by rebels.
Beneshiekh is about 70 km from Maiduguri and is located along the main Kano-Damaturu-Maiduguri highway. Confirming the incident, the Acting Chairman of Kaga Municipality, Hon. Mustapha Bukar Baima, in an exclusive interview on Monday, November 30, 2023, expressed shock at the fresh terror attacks causing many deaths, especially the murder of the leader of Kaga City.
He said the Chief Imam of Beneshiekh, his brother, and two hunters were abducted in the area. “We received a distress call that Boko Haram terrorists gunned down our Chief Imam of Beneshiekh Jummat Mosque in his house at about 1:15 am on Monday.
“The terrorists first broke into the home of a Muslim scholar, but when they realized that the photo they brought for execution was not the same as the photo of the Muslim leader who was their target, they asked him to return to the house and stay calm.
“Then they went to another house where the high priest was praying. The terrorists then opened fire on him after realizing that the image they were carrying resembled their target. “The terrorists also burned some Islamic books after killing the Muslim leader.
“His burial will take place today (Monday) according to Islamic orders. “Another terrorist group invaded Makinta Kururi and kidnapped two hunters, in addition to the murder of the late leader’s younger brother.
“I would like to express my condolences to the bereaved family and pray to Allah (God) to grant Jannatul Firdausi to the deceased, he said”.
According to the president, military authorities have been informed of this tragic development and are currently searching for the fleeing terrorists.
