Ghana Premier Club, Legon Cities FC, was attacked by armed robbers on the Bibiani-Kumasi highway as they made their way back to Accra following a league game on Wednesday afternoon against Samartex.
The driver’s side of the team bus was smashed, and all possessions of the players and officials, including mobile phones and laptops, were taken. The incident happened at around 11 p.m.
“There are no casualties, but they took everything from us,” player Nicholas Mensah said.
It is not the first time a Ghana Premier League team has been the victim of armed robbery; Ashantigold, Asante Kotoko, and Wa All Stars have suffered similar mishaps.
The women’s Premier League team, Savannah Ladies, was also attacked last season. One player, Osman Amadu, sustained injuries. Legon Cities were defeated 3-0 by Samatex
