Hearts of Oak board member Vincent Sowah Odotei says Hearts of Oak intends to hire a top-class coach like Pitso Mosimane, from South Africa.
This year’s campaign has been extremely difficult for Hearts of Oak thus far. The Phobians are now without a permanent coach even though they hired Martin Koopman, who left on mutual terms after failing to resolve the issues.
Nevertheless, several claims that the club’s board members meddled in player decisions hampered Koopman’s exit. Abdul Rahim Bashiru, an assistant coach, is currently in charge of the Rainbow Club. He has been appointed as the club’s temporary coach.
Mr. Odotei, a former member of parliament for La Dadekotopon, clarified that the club is unable to hire well-known coaches due to budgetary limitations. In an interview with Asempa FM, a station in Accra, he stated,
“Those of us in charge of Hearts of Oak now want to bring someone like Pitso Mosimane. Can we afford him? Do you know how much he was being paid at Al Ahly?” Odotei told Asempa FM.
“The point I am trying to make is that when appointing a coach, a lot of considerations come into play.
“If the fans are patient with us a bit, we believe we will get to a stage where we can attract world-class coaches.”
Matchday 13 games this weekend at Baba Yara Stadium will pit Hearts of Oak, who are currently eighth in the league standings, against rivals Asante Kotoko.
Koopman, who was hired before the season, departed the team after winning just two of the ten games he participated in.
