Former midfielder for Ghana Kelvin Prince Boateng has revealed what transpired between him and Ronaldinho during his time at Herta.
The midfield player claimed that Ronaldinho saved him from a lawsuit from Nike after he saw the Brazilian player sporting a pair of newly released black R10s and decided to buy one himself.
Boateng said in an interview on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast that,
“I met Ronaldinho when I was playing at Hertha. One day, he brought his classic black R10s with the tongue.
No one was allowed to wear them, only him, because he had to unveil them on Sunday with Barcelona.
After seeing them, I went to the store and bought them.
I wore them on Saturday, and after the game, the Nike boss called me.
I didn’t know they hadn’t been unveiled, and they wanted to sue me for 250,000 euros.
They called Ronaldinho to ask if they should sue me. He replied, ‘No, the Bundesliga is too small, no one saw them,’ and he saved me.”
The 35-year-old took to Instagram to declare his retirement to pursue a career in football management. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said,
“Kevin Prince Boateng is ready for a new chapter after retiring, as he’s expected to start in 2024 as the new team manager in Mats Hummels’ Baller League. His career will turn into a new experience soon”.
