All public sector employees without Ghana Card numbers will have their salaries frozen as of February 2024 according to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).
The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) has released a new directive to reduce the number of ghost names on government payrolls.
There seems to have been a misunderstanding between CAGD and NIA about the issuance of those without Ghana cards, though CAGD later wrote to NIA to request approval and agreement on the suggested timelines.
The NIA responded by saying that they had already made it known that they were unable to carry out a special registration exercise.
On September 4, NIA opened offices around the country for general registration, with a special emphasis on public sector workers who were employed by the government.
Taking this into consideration, CAGD has sent out a vital warning to its employees and members, asking them to apply for Ghana Cards at any of the country’s 292 NIA offices before the deadline.
