In response to an incident between coach Chris Hughton and a supporter following the team’s opening loss against Cape Verde at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has stepped up security for the Black Stars.
The GFA has confirmed that Hughton was only involved in a verbal argument with the fan who reportedly assaulted him when the team returned to their hotel. Hughton has received the association’s full support and assurance that action will be taken to stop future occurrences of this kind.
GFA spokesperson Henry Asante Twum says in the wake of the event, security at the team’s hotel has been stepped up. He clarified that there was no violent altercation; rather, Hughton was challenged by a lone fan regarding the team’s poor performance.
The Black Stars’ next game, against Egypt on Thursday, is unequivocally a crucial one for the group and Ghanaians are looking forward to see Chris Hughton has the ability to turn things around and guide the team to success.
