The Black Stars of Ghana drew 2-2 with the Pharaohs of Egypt in their second game in Group B at the Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Thursday January 18.
In reaction to the game which saw Ghana give away two goals as a result of individual errors, Chris Hughton has spoken on why he subbed off Osman Bukari despite bringing him on after 73 minutes of in the second half. Bukari was subbed off on the 88th minute mark.
According to Chris Hughton, Bukari was disturbed and distracted after making an error which handed Egypt their late equalizer to make the game 2-2.
“We love Osman Bukari and have a lot of faith in him. I make decision on what I see from the pitch. My feeling is that there were a lot of emotions in the game. He is a very honest player and at that moment, it affected him in the game. This is not normal, normally it doesn’t happen so to make this tough decision it’s because of what myself and the coaches see. This doesn’t take away anything we feel about him and the type of player he is but sometimes these are tough decisions to make.” Chris Hughton explained his decision to sub Bukari off.
Ghana will have to defeat Mozambique to stand a chance of going past the group stage after Cape Verde defeated them 3-0 on Friday.
