One year has passed since the gifted Ghanaian football player Christian Atsu Twasam’s departure.
About two weeks after the earthquake in Turkey on February 6, 2023, the famous football player was discovered dead beneath the debris of his house.
Before a second earthquake of comparable magnitude struck hours later, affecting an area of 140,000 square miles spanning southern Turkey and Syria and killing at least 60,000 people, Atsu was living in one of theĀ apartments that collapsed.
The 31-year-old athlete, who was formerly a player for Hatayspor, had a distinguished career, appearing for Porto, Chelsea, and Newcastle United. Notably, just one day prior to the earthquake, Atsu scored Hatayspor’s lone goal in their triumphant game against Kasimpasa.
With his explosive speed and deft technical play, Christian Atsu made a lasting impression on the football community. His sudden death a year ago shocked the whole sports world and left supporters, teammates, and admirers in disbelief.
Atsu’s charitable activities won him praise in addition to his athletic abilities. He won the hearts of many with his dedication to making the lives of others better, particularly through his philanthropic activities in Ghana.
In addition to the goals he scored, Atsu Twasam’s impact lives on in the lives he touched off the field, as friends, family, and supporters remember him.
