Jesse Lingard, 31, a former midfielder for Manchester United and England, reportedly signed a two-year contract with FC Seoul on Thursday.
After leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of the previous season, the midfielder, who was a member of the England team that advanced to the World Cup semifinals and won the Europa League with United, became a free agent.
At the airport in Incheon, more than two hundred people gathered to greet him. At a Thursday press conference in the capital of South Korea, he said,
“I have received several offers since last summer.” “I’ve always wanted different challenges and to create new memories in my career, and I believe being in South Korea is the perfect place for that,”
“Other clubs only made verbal offers. FC Seoul sent a written offer. Club officials showed their sincerity by coming to Manchester to check on my physical condition. At that time, I decided to sign with FC Seoul.”
FC Seoul has won the title six times, most recently in 2016. They kick off the new K League season away at Gwangju FC on March 2.
