The Copper Queens of Zambia narrowly defeated Ghana’s senior women’s national team in the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers.
The Black Queens had a difficult task against Zambia; they lost the first leg 1-0 in Accra and drew the second match 3-3 in Ndola.
Even though they gave it their all, the squad was eventually unable to advance, as Zambia won 4-3 overall to move on to the next round.
Black Queens Head Coach Nora Hauptle has expressed her disappointment at the team’s failure to qualify. She however acknowledged that the Black Queens fought a good fight and they will learn their lessons.
“My team was brave, my team was playing football, my team was fighting, I can’t blame them at all. Sometimes it’s hard. They scored a free kick and the red card in the last minute. We would have loved to go overtime but all in all, it’s disappointing for us but kudos to Zambia.”
The Black Queens will now concentrate on the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2024, which will happen later this year in Morocco.
