A military officer from the Ghana Air Force has been confirmed dead after collapsing during the 67th Independence anniversary celebrations in Koforidua, Eastern Region, on Wednesday.
The military officer died while sixty-six other people also collapsed during the procession. Eight of them were taken to the Eastern Regional Hospital for additional care after receiving emergency medical attention from doctors on duty at the scene.
Students, military personnel, and soldiers are among those who are reported to have fallen victim to severe dehydration as a result of the day’s extreme weather.
The Local Organizing Committee expressed its deep sadness over the incident and stated that it is making every effort to inform the military high command of the tragic loss.
The military officer’s health declined, resulting in his premature death. It is thought that the staff and students may have collapsed as a result of standing in the intense sun for hours.
