Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), disclosed that he gave Anas Aremeyaw Anas $100,000 in exchange for killing his number 12 exposé.
Nyantakyi said that the investigative journalist had wanted $150,000 to axe the documentary from his lawyers.
He claimed that after paying the journalist’s lawyers $100,000, they came back to inform him that his money was insufficient, even though he was unable to connect the demand to Anas.
He continued by saying that after Anas launched the documentary, he sought a reimbursement and received the entire sum albeit in installments back.
“Before the video was released, his lawyers reached out to me through a certain Kwame Gyan, a lecturer at Legon. I met him at his residence around Westland and gave them the money,” Nyantakyi told Onua TV, as quoted by Joy Sports.
“But they told me the amount was inadequate and later went ahead to release the video. After the video came out, I asked for a refund and even the refund was done in pieces.Today, they would bring $20,000, the next day another $10,000. They were giving me stories, but eventually I got everything back.” Nyantakyi explained.
We recall that Nyantakyi was allegedly caught accepting cash gifts and selling influence in Anas’ “Number 12” exposé from 2018.
As a result, he was forced to resign from his role as President of the GFA and forfeit his membership in the FIFA Council and first vice presidency of CAF.
Following the exposé, FIFA punished Nyantakyi with a 500,000 Swiss Franc fine in addition to a lifetime ban.
In addition, a public official accused him of conspiring to commit fraud and corruption. Nevertheless, he was eventually released on bond withseveral sureties.
