Former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has been named head coach of Heerenveen, a top-division team in the Netherlands.
Kees van Wonderen, the current manager of Heerenveen, announced in March that he would step down at the end of his contract.
The forty-year-old record goalscorer for men in the Netherlands has signed a two-year contract and will take up his first managerial position in the summer.
Van Persie, a member of the United team that won the Premier League in 2013, stated,
“I would like to continue my development and the role of head coach fits in perfectly with that goal.”
“Heerenveen is a very nice club with a rich tradition and loyal supporters.
“It is a fantastic challenge to contribute to the sporting ambitions and development of the club as head coach.”
He has served as Feyenoord’s assistant coach and has overseen the club’s under-18 and under-19 teams since he retired from playing in 2019.
