A farmer in Yorve, close to Agordome, who cultivated rice and produced Tongu Rice, was shot and killed on his farm in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.
Owner of the Sinagro Guest House in Sogakope, Sina Peter, who was shot by unidentified gunmen on Monday, May 20, at approximately 7 p.m., was declared dead upon arrival at the Sogakope District Hospital. Sina Peter is thought to be in his mid-40s.
A friend of the deceased, Johnson Kobby Amedzo, the Assembly Member for the Xikpo-Agbagorme Electoral Area, disclosed that Mr. Peter and his employees were harvesting rice at the time of the incident.
The deceased, who also owned a rice mill site at Akakpokope close to Dabala Junction, was shot, according to him, after one of his workers, identified as Kafui, was shot by the attackers while they were loading the harvested rice into a car. He said,
“The deceased met his untimely death as he was shot in an attempt to check who was shot during the act after hearing gunshots.”
According to Mr. Amedzo, Kafui was subsequently moved to the Ho Teaching Hospital, where he is presently undergoing treatment. He also stated that the families of the deceased were in contact with the Sogakope Police to obtain additional details about the tragic event.
He made a plea to members of the public to provide information that could result in the offenders’ arrest. According to sources, the action may have started as a result of a land lawsuit between the deceased and a few other people.
However, the Sogakope Police, when contacted, remained tight-lipped on the incident, only indicating that investigations were ongoing. The deceased, who was also a former Brazil Rice marketing manager, was married and had three girls and a boy as children.
Since then, the body has been moved to the morgue in the Sogakope District in anticipation of an autopsy.
