In the ongoing WAFU Zone B Under-17 Championship semi-finals, the National under-17 team, the Black Starlets, will play Burkina Faso.
The two Group B final games were canceled on Wednesday afternoon due to heavy rain, so the Black Starlets had to wait until Thursday afternoon to find out who they would be playing against.
Ghana, having won Group A, waited amiably to find out who their next opponents would be after the games in Group B.
Nevertheless, Laryea Kingston and his teammates are aware that they must defeat the Burkinabes in a crucial semifinal match to advance to the championship game.
To avoid Ghana in the semifinals, Nigeria won the group with a larger goal differential. Nigeria defeated Togo 3-0 to take first place in Group B, while Burkina Faso defeated Niger 1-0 in the decisive match to finish second.
Burkina Faso and the Black Starlets will square off once more on Saturday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
In 2022, Burkina Faso emerged victorious and advanced to the final after the two teams met at the same stage of the competition in Cape Coast.
The match will be officiated by Niger’s Sadou Ali Brahamou. Compatriot Sakina Hamidou alfa (Assistant I), Nigerian Muhammad Yakubu Mahamud (Assistant II), and Hugues Modeste Richard Kokora from Cote d’Ivoire (Fourth Official) will support him.
The game is scheduled to take place at University Stadium in Accra on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. GMT.
