The game between UCC Youngsters and Bentenase FC in the Central Regional Division Two (2) Middle League final ended abruptly at 0-0 after roughly thirty minutes of play.
Following the referee’s straight red card for their star player’s nasty challenge on a UCC player, the Betenase fans stormed onto the field, causing the game to be stopped.
Under the full spotlight of the police, the Betenase supporters shattered the back glass, inflated the tires, and damaged the windscreen of the Distance Education Coastal bus that the UCC boys had driven to the Cape Coast Stadium.
The referees had to run for cover when things became ugly with the enraged spectators. Fearing for their lives, the officials retreated to the dressing room and refused to leave to resume the game.
