The UEFA Technical Observer Panel gave Lookman’s second goal in the Europa League final the highest approval ratings.
The 26-year-old scored an incredible hat-trick as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final on Wednesday to win their first-ever European trophy.
Despite his three goals, his second goal stood out the most because he deftly sidestepped Granit Xhaka and found the bottom corner.
The UEFA Technical Observer Panel has shortlisted ten goals from this season’s Europa League for the competition’s Goal of the Season award. Kudus’ amazing goal against Freiburg in the quarterfinals, where he dribbled from his box to score, was one of them.
Lookman’s goal was, however, adjudged to be better, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s strike against Ajax finishing second. Third place went to Kudus’ goal, while fourth and fifth places went to Rafael Leao and Joao Pedro, respectively.

“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang secured the runner-up position with his spectacular finish for Marseille against Ajax, while Mohammed Kudus secured the third place with his solo effort in West Ham’s 5-0 victory against Freiburg at home.”
However, because of his exceptional play as the league’s top scorer, Aubameyang was also named the Europa League Player of the Season.
Nevertheless, Kudus was statistically rated higher than every other player in the competition and went on to win the title of WhoScored.com’s player of the tournament in the UEFA Europa League.
