After a misunderstanding near the Electoral Commission’s office in Kasoa, Ato Koomson, the son of the MP for Awutu Senya East and the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, is suspected of stabbing himself.
The information that is currently available indicates that Mr. Koomson was in critical condition when he was brought to the 37 Military Hospital for care. Sources say another person was also injured during the altercation.
An eyewitness provided further information, stating that the dispute arose between the opposition NDC and the ruling NPP regarding the standing of certain citizens in the line during the ongoing voter ID card replacement and transfer process.
According to the source, a dispute over who gets to sit in which chair began at 4:00 am. Normally, both parties sign up for memberships by reserving a spot.
Mr. Koomson is said to have arrived at the registration center about 45 minutes after the altercation started. He is then alleged to have approached the NDC organizer at the registration center to help resolve the issue. But then he began receiving verbal abuse from another purported NDC member.
King Adawu, an NPP member who also received a minor cut, claimed that during the altercation between the two gentlemen, the accused NDC member produced a knife and stabbed the minister’s son in the chest.
King Adawu told sources that he had tried to block the knife, which resulted in his injury.
After that, the two of them were hurried to the hospital, where Ato Koomson was admitted and treated.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, the primary suspect has been taken into custody by the police.
