Burkinabe import Songne Yacouba scored a brace as Asante Kotoko defeated 10- man Hearts of oak 2-0 on Sunday in the first leg of the Double header Super Clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The in- form Yacouba opened the scoring for the Porcupine Warriors in the 39th minute of the first half after goalkeeper Ernest Sowah failed to make a first time save from a Prince Acquah shot from 25 yards.
Yacouba was there in time to pounce in on the rebound to register the first goal for the reds who were playing as the away team as the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Asante Kotoko ended the first half with a 1-0 lead despite Hearts of oak creating a lot of goal scoring opportunities in the latter part of the first half.
Hearts of oak were seeking to bounce back in the second half of the game with experience goalkeeper Ernest Sowah making way for Ben Mensah but the team was hit with a big blow with the sending off of Defender Robert Addo by Tema based referee Maxwell Hanson in the 58th minute after receiving a second yellow card.
Songne Yacouba doubled Kotoko’s lead two minutes later with a classic goal after connecting a tailored measured pass from veteran midfielder Jordan Opoku to make it 2:0 for the Fabulous lads.
The two teams will square off again come next Sunday 2nd September, 2018 at the same venue, Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Two goal hero Songne Yacouba of Kotoko was named as man of the match.
