World Sports Journalists Day was created by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) on July 2 to honour the day the organisation was founded in 1994 during the Summer Olympics in Paris. This day is set aside to commemorate the exceptional contributions made by sports writers.

Sports journalists are often not regarded as compared to other journalists in different areas yet by training and practice, some are just the best. They are experts of live reporting and commentary, excellent in understanding and interpreting data, masters at storytelling, very good with adding colour and visualisation and finding balance.
