Maxwell Konadu, the head coach of the Black Leopards, is confident that his expertise and knowledge will assist the squad in getting back into the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Two weeks ago, the 51-year-old coach agreed to a one-year contract with the team after Konadu led Nsoatreman FC to their first FA Cup triumph.
With Konadu’s hiring, the Leopards’ hopes of making a run at the Premier League following their relegation in 2019/2020 have been reinvigorated. Among his many accomplishments as a coach are noteworthy continental and international experiences.
For instance, during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, he was the Black Stars’ deputy coach, and his performance was crucial to Ghana’s qualifying.
“I know about Black Leopards from when they were still in the Premiership, and now that they are in division one, they need to fight back. I am well-experienced on the continent. I’ve been in the World Cups, AFCON, CHANs…I’ve been everywhere. I want to see if all this experience will help me push Black Leopards to the highest level,” Konadu said, as quoted by SowetanLive.
“In 2014, Kwesi Appiah was the head coach and I was his assistant. We successfully led the Black Stars to the World Cup in Brazil,” he recalled.
“After that, Appiah left and I was asked to coach the national team on an interim basis and I qualified the team for AFCON 2015.” Konadu added to underline how reliable he is as an experienced coach.
With a great resume and a plethora of knowledge, Konadu is expected to make big contributions to the team, increasing their prospects of making a strong return to the PSL.
