The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly(STMA) has today, 29th August, 2018 inaugurated a Seven Member Sports Unit at the office of the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Honorable Anthony K.K Sam.
The colorful ceremony was led by the MCE, honorable Anthony K.K Sam with support from the Western Regional Sports Director, Mr. Jeffrey K Owusu Manzah and other dignitaries in the region.
The Seven-member committee will be chaired by former Sekondi Hasaacas IMC chairman, Eric Kwesi Essel with members including Felix Andan, a former National Athlete, Victor Farmeh, Metro P.E Co-ordinator, Emmanuel Budu, a Metro Sports Director, a retired FIFA referee Frederick Kwesi Mensah, Kweku Sagoe, who is a Sports Journalist at Takoradi based Rok FM and another member who is yet to be selected.
Addressing the media after the inauguration, the chairman of the committee, Eric Kwesi Essel expressed his profound gratitude and called for the support of every individual in the region to help in making the work a successful one.
He also stated that the mandate of the committee is to assist in the establishment of a Sports Association in the district and help in the formation and implementation of Sports Policies, programmes and activities of the District Assembly, Co-ordinate the preparation of annual Sports budget of the District Assembly etc during their first 4 year terms in office.
