Fisherfolks in Jamestown an indigenous Ga fishing community in Accra, have reported a bumper catch following the lifting of the prohibition on artisanal and inshore fleet fishing last week.
The fishing prohibition for this year’s close season for inshore and artisanal fleets was lifted last week by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.
In an effort to replenish Ghana’s fishery stock, which data indicate has been declining, the ministry and the Fisheries Commission instituted the fishing close season, which barred fishermen from fishing in the country’s seas for a month.
