Ground transportation is integral to the air travel experience, providing essential connectivity between airports, terminals, and surrounding areas. Goldstar Air will offer 24-hour diverse transportation options tailored to meet the needs of passengers, crew, and airport personnel.
Goldstar Air ground transportation services will play a vital role in ensuring the efficiency, accessibility, and convenience of our air travel operations in Ghana with the airline app-based ride services. As airports continue to evolve and expand, the development of robust and sustainable ground transportation systems remains essential for enhancing the overall travel experience and supporting the continued growth and success of the aviation industry.
Goldstar Air’s 24-hour app-based ride is a shift from traditional taxi staging and virtual queue, allowing drivers to avoid a physical line of cars. In 2022, the United States transportation system served 333 million U.S. residents residing in 124 million households, including people who may not own vehicles, and millions of foreign visitors. The airport ground transportation market is on an upward trajectory, foreseen to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 4.60% from 2024 to 2034.
According to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Goldstar Air Eric Bannerman, the airline’s 24-hour ground transportation services will contribute to the economic vitality of airports in Ghana and surrounding communities by supporting local businesses, creating employment opportunities, and fostering economic growth and development. The airline will provide free shuttle services for people to nearby hotels when an overnight stay is required for connecting flights and our well-designed ground transportation system will enhance Ghana’s airport efficiency by minimizing congestion, reducing travel times, and optimizing airport infrastructure and facilities utilization.
Around the world, major airports provide many types of ground transportation, typically by working in conjunction with livery companies and other transportation providers. On the other hand, smaller airports might only have a few private rental companies and limited public or mass transport services.
Another aspect of ground transportation that does not involve passengers is freight transport. Freight transport has become focused on containerization, while bulk transport is used for large volumes or durable items. Ground transport plays an integral part in economic growth and globalization.
Airports are major logistics hubs and courier services impact operations every day. Courier even delivers critical aircraft parts. called aircraft on-ground (AOG) parts, required for maintenance, which minimizes flight delays.
Shipping by air is a fast and efficient means of transport for goods. Airlines transport over 52 million metric tons of goods a year, representing more than thirty-five percent of global trade by value and equivalent to 6.8 trillion U.S. dollars’ worth of goods annually, or 18.6 billion U.S. dollars every day.
Goldstar Air cargo handling is the segment of the supply chain that processes goods landside in the cargo facility. From the delivery at the airport of origin, until it is ready for loading on the plane, to the unloading at the destination and handover to the consignee/freight forwarder, many steps will be involved with cargo handling and will be closely followed to ensure shipments are delivered safely and securely.
The airline goods in transit will be received and security cleared once again. Goods left on the aircraft that are in transit are considered transit cargo. Cargo and ground handling services will give the transit cargo security checks, including x-ray and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) screening. A detailed exam of the e-AWB, integrity of the cargo, and piece count will be made. Once the pre-plan details are established, a build-up plan will be prepared, which indicates what air cargo is to be built for flight, and the information is sent to the warehouse.
Goldstar Air’s cargo unloading process will involve fewer steps for airport cargo and ground handlers than the shipping and loading process. There are still many rules and regulations cargo, and ground handling personnel must comply with, however. Following our ramp safety protocols while methodically performing tasks, will help alleviate accidents and keep aircraft turnaround times in check.
The airline will always unload the cargo from our aircraft in containers and transfer it to the freight forwarder hub where it will be unloaded and checked. Goods will be dispatched via our forwarder branch facility before being handed to the consignee and then they will be finally delivered to the final customer, with Goldstar Air ground transportation, including our 24-hour dispatch riders (Okada).
Goldstar Air 24-hour dispatch riders and drivers will undergo a background check from the Ghana police, certification, and training from our security department, as part of over one million job opportunities. Airports are busy places with heightened security, controlled access points, unpredictable traffic patterns, and specific regulations, policies, and procedures that govern the pickup and delivery of items. When transporting items to, from, or within Ghana airports, it will be vital to use the Goldstar Air app-ride service with intimately familiar with the airports and experienced certified drivers and riders and the airline will work closely with the Ghana police service to maintain law and order.
Commercial aviation is a major contributor to global economic prosperity and provides the only rapid worldwide transportation network, which makes it essential for global businesses. It generates economic growth, creates jobs, and facilitates international trade and tourism.
Commercial aviation drives 5% of the United States Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the equivalent of $1.37 trillion in 2023. United States Airlines operates more than 26,000 flights daily, carrying 2.6 million passengers to and from nearly 80 countries and 61,000 tons of cargo to and from more than 220 countries.
Mr. Bannerman emphasized that. to benefit from the West Africa hub or Gateway to West Africa, the country must include transit facilities and immigration should adopt a new policy that recognizes transit passengers. Goldstar Air will have transit facilities where our passengers will stay until they board their next flight, as the airline’s vision extends to operating over one hundred aircraft and generating sustainable job opportunities for Ghanaians to connect African businesses and capitalize on the opportunity presented by the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), by improving ground transportation at the various airports in Ghana.
Goldstar Air will segment class of passengers who in other countries are made to wait in the transit facility on the airside until they are due to fly again and will be working with the Ghana Immigration Service to treat passengers whose destination is not Ghana differently and who will be at the airside to be able to tour some parts of the country whiles on transit, not to obtain a visa or follow other procedures like other passengers whose final destination is Ghana and this will create more jobs for the ground transportation and part of the airline over one million job opportunities. What is usually obtained is that if the passengers are not leaving the airport, they do not need a visa because they are in transit.
When tourists spend more money when they travel, and the money they spend is reinvested, it directly impacts the local economy. According to the first UNWTO World Tourism Barometer of the year, international tourism ended 2023 at 88% of pre-pandemic levels.
Goldstar Air has signed an agreement with an Aviation and Electric Vehicle (EV) charger manufacturing company to distribute and install the chargers at vantage points, including all airports in Ghana, malls, rest stops, and filling stations to enable our fleet to operate consistently and at private homes.
The Electric Vehicle (EV) market, according to Bloomberg, is heading for significant growth over the next few years. This growth, however, would not be possible without increased infrastructure in locations with a critical mass of EVs, like airports. From travelers and airport personnel to delivery vehicles, rentals, airport services, and, often, a key location on transportation routes.
Ghana airports can and will play a pivotal in accommodating EV infrastructure. Airports are emerging as key hubs for EV charging, aligning with broader efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner modes of travel. Airports serve as major transportation hubs, attracting thousands of passengers daily.
Providing Electric Vehicle charging stations at Ghana airports will also enable EV owners to charge their vehicles while they travel, whether it is for a short trip or an extended stay. This will eliminate range anxiety and will encourage more people to choose electric vehicles for their journeys, including those renting cars.
Electric bikes, or e-bikes (Okada), have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their convenience, sustainability, and health benefits. One of the main components of an e-bike is the battery, which powers the electric motor and allows the bike to function. With Goldstar Air providing electric charging at vantage points around the country for the airline’s courier service e-bikes and the public, it will make the e-bikes very effective, because without a charged battery, the e-bikes would not be able to go very far.
Airport EV charging will support the growth of electric vehicle fleets for Ghana airport operations. Many airports are now integrating Electric vehicles into their ground transportation fleets. Investing in charging infrastructure can help airports ensure their electric fleets remain operational with minimal downtime.
Beyond practical applications, Ghana airport’s EV charging will be a visible symbol of sustainability and innovation. Airports are often considered gateways to cities and regions, and showcasing EV charging infrastructure at Ghana airports will send a powerful message about a commitment to environmental stewardship. This ultimate hope is that this visible commitment will inspire travelers and businesses to adopt more sustainable practices and contribute to both EV adoption and infrastructure development.
