Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations took a hit after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Niger at the Stade de Berkane.
Ghana had lost to Angola for the first time in 24 years at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday August 5 before coming into this fixture.
Despite dominating possession and creating chances, the Black Stars struggled to convert their opportunities, ultimately settling for a share of the spoils.
The team failed to transit from defence to attack smoothly despite the midfield changes made by Coach Otto Addo with Majeed Ashimeru starting ahead of Elisha Owusu who started in the previous game.
The match saw Ghana take the lead through a goal from Alidu Seidu in the 44th minute, but failed to hold on to the lead as the late goal syndrome occured again with Niger’s Sako equalizing in the 81st minute to salvage a point.
The draw leaves Ghana at the third place in group F with just one point from two games.
Angola will lock horns with Sudan later today with both sides having three points.
The Black Stars will need to improve their finishing and capitalize on their dominance to have a realistic chance of qualifying for the continental tournament. With tough fixtures ahead, Ghana must regroup and find a way to turn their possession into goals.
