Ghanaian football legend Mohammed Polo has advised against having high hopes for the Black Stars after their lacklustre showing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The first two games of the qualification series of the 2025 AFCON have presented difficulties for four-time AFCON winners Ghana who have lost one and drew the other.
The Black Stars’ misery in the qualification round was exacerbated as they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco on Monday.
“Black Stars is in a serious challenge. Ghanaians must admit that football has evolved and there are no minnows anymore. We shouldn’t think of beating any country until the game is over going forward. The perception of being a powerhouse in African football is no more. Per what I saw against Niger, I think we have to lower expectations” he told Koforidua-based Bryt FM in an interview.
Ghana will play again in October, in a doubleheader against Sudan, a team coached by Kwesi Appiah a former Black Stars coach with a wealth of experience in Ghana and African football posing threats to Ghana’s qualification chances.
After seven games, Sudan has won five of them, demonstrating their impressive performance under the former Black Stars Coach.
