Dodzie Numekevor, the director general of the National Sports Authority, has been fired by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Following a meeting at the Jubilee House, it was decided to fire him in light of the national humiliation.
President Akufo-Addo reportedly made the decision to remove the Director of the Sports Authority from his position after learning that the Baba Yara Stadium’s use for category 3 games had been disapproved by the Confederation Of African Football due to pitch degradation and other violations found following the Ghana vs. Angola AFCON qualifier in Kumasi.
Due to several problems with the facility’s subpar amenities, CAF revoked its approval for Baba Yara Stadium to hold international matches.
In addition to the awful surface that has drawn a lot of criticism, problems with the media centre, floodlight intensity, locker rooms, and public address systems have been found over time, which have resulted in the ban.
According to CAF’s Ghana will host Sudan in an AFCON qualifier for 2025 outside the country.
“I am directed by the President of the Republic to inform you that your appointment as the Director-General of the National Sports Authority has been terminated with immediate effect,” stated the letter of termination dated September 17, 2024.
The letter of termination went on to say, “The President thanks you for your service to the nation and extends his best wishes.”
In the meantime, the Baba Yara Stadium is closed for redevelopment after Ghana’s opening 2025 AFCON qualification match, a 1-0 loss to Angola. The Cape Coast Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium have also been closed for renovations.
