The National Sports Authority (NSA) has categorically stated that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa-Nsuaem cannot take over the management of the Tarkwa T&A Park. This clarification comes in response to recent reports suggesting that the MCE was seeking to assume control of the stadium.
The NSA emphasized that the Tarkwa T&A Park remains under its jurisdiction and that any decisions regarding its management and operations must be made in consultation with the relevant authorities. The NSA further clarified that the MCE does not have the authority to unilaterally take over the stadium.
In August, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, which had spent more than $16 million USD building the stadium, turned it over to the NSA for maintenance.
Nevertheless, the Municipal Assembly has voiced displeasure with the stadium’s upkeep less than a month after NSA took over control. A committee has been formed to oversee the facility, according to Chief Executive Benjamin Kesse, because “most of the stadium’s aspects are not functioning.”
Deputy Director General of the NSA Bawa Majeed responded by refuting this assertion and reiterating that the NSA is still in control of the stadium.
Bawa stated to Asempa FM, “They have not taken over and they cannot take over like that.” That is not how we can seize control of public property. The facility is not just for the Municipality even though it is located there.
