Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the organiser of the Democracy Hub demonstration, has denied rumours that he is in hiding and that the police have proclaimed him wanted.
The claims were described as “baseless and misleading” by Barker-Vormawor.
Several demonstrators from the Democracy Hub group were taken into custody on Sunday, September 22.
A manhunt was launched by the police to find Barker-Vormawor and other people for their suspected involvement in illegal activities during the protest, according to a statement they later released.
A number of protesters from the Democracy Hub group have been arrested, according to the Ghana Police Service, for engaging in illegal activities. These acts included roadblocking, toppling police barriers, and disrupting traffic at the 37 Roundabout in Accra.
The police issued a statement informing the public that a manhunt is in progress to capture Oliver Vormawor, one of the protest leaders, and any other individuals engaged in unlawful activities during the rally.
The protest abruptly changed its original objective, which was on the economy, and was renamed as an anti-galamsey (illegal mining) event.
Oliver Vormawor amid the demonstration was seen stealing a key from a police car, throwing it away, and then leaving the scene in a video that has gone viral.
